This term is just another word for doctors of internal medicine or doctors for adults. However, you may see them referred to by several other names. These are not to be confused with "interns," who are doctors in their first year of residency training. Although these practitioners may act as primary care physicians, they are not "family physicians," "family practitioners," or "general practitioners," because their work focuses exclusively on adults, making them uniquely equipped to treat the patients for whom they have a deep passion that's codified in the committed education they pursue.
